Distant Drawing is a collaborative project developed by Margarita Ieva Loze and I. It took shape during the months of quarantine and translates all the limitation artists can encounter when in time of crisis, and when having to collaborate at a distance

Limitations can paradoxically often be very freeing; we decided to use the “technology of everyday” (smartphones, facetime, whatsapp) and turn them into tools to create art.

Drawing being an important part of both our practices, we tried creating a virtual bridge that would connect both our universes. Even though separated by 2800 kilometres, from London to Latvia, the final drawing consists of two separate pieces of paper, forming one single narrative that only exists digitally, as a way of erasing the distance and still be able to be merge, although apart.
